UKFC Chair’s Award Winners

Earlier this year, the NFCC CYP announced the launch of the UK Fire Cadets Chair’s Award.

The award is aimed at providing recognition for those cadets that go beyond that extra mile to benefit and support others, their Fire Service, their community or even themselves.

We are very proud to announce Joolz Early from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service Fire Cadets as the first recipient of the UKFC Chair’s Award for her ‘Courage in Adversity’.

She was presented with the award last week at a joint ceremony with East Sussex Police by Chief Fire Officer Dawn Whittaker presented Joolz with the Chair’s Award after she had responded to an adverse situation. Using skills that she has gained as Cadet, Joolz was first on the scene at a road traffic collision involving a car and a young motorcyclist. She immediately got out of her own car, safely approached the injured casualty and made sure help was on its way. The paramedics commented on Joolz‘s  knowledge and calm approach in this situation.

Chief Fire Officer Dawn Whittaker said:

“Seeing our cadets, cadet leaders, families and friends together during the awards evening has highlighted the sense of community and pride that cadets have in their units, and equally the pride we have in them as a part of our fire service family. I hope that the young people who have undertaken the programme feel better equipped and I hope to see some of them in the future joining the service.”
